Religious Studies
at The Nest
As part of our religious studies topic on Special Places, the students visited a local Gurdwara in Stoke on Trent. This enabled the students to gain first hand experience of learning about different places of worship.
The students learned about the holy building and what it was like inside and why they took their shoes off at the entrance and had to wear a head covering.
They learned about the holy book the Guru Granth Sahib and some of the rituals such as keeping it high up and wafting it with a Chaur Sahib and learned it signified devotion and respect to the Guru Granth Sahib.
They also tasted a special food called Prashad and were also given a drink, crisps, pakoras and a hot meal if they wished.
The students asked several questions to find out more about a Gurdwara and why it is important to Sikhs.
